* "Children's Message for Peace" -MRex's New Interactive/Web Video
Project on Hiroshima Children's Experiences posted 4/2008
This project was originally conceived as Reiko and Max's long-pondered reaction to the post-9.11 climates in the U.S.
Based on rare accounts by Hiroshima children survivors compiled in Dr. Arata Osada's 1951 book "Children of Hiroshima," American children will keep their stories alive as storytellers. The book was in print in the U.S. for only 4 years between 1982 to 1986 after the tremendous efforts of Japanese peace educators who wanted to make it available for Western readers. As parents who raise a child in the U.S., we strongly feel that young people in the U.S. are deprived of opportunities to learn about the reality of war. In collaboration with Dr. Kathleen Sullivan, a nuclear disarmament specialist/educator, a consulting producer of Steven Okazaki's HBO film "White Light/Black Rain," the producer of "The Last Atomic Bomb." Kathleen visits about 100 middle and high school in NY area every year to educate them about nuclear issues. She is also a consultant to the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs.
It will be also available online for class use, and distributed through peace educators' network in the U.S. and beyond. We have shot some segments for a demo, and are currently seeking additional funds to complete the project. Your tax-deductible contributions will be greatly appreciated! You can donate online through our fiscal sponsor New York Foundation for the Arts' website (www.nyfa.org) Please follow "Contribute to Sponsorship" tab on right upper area. The Artist name is Reiko Tahara & Kozo Max Uesugi, the project title is "Children's Message for Peace." Thank you!
